in the Leipzig Book Fair

5 Students in Leipzig Book Fair: Lina, Migle, Karolis, Gabija and Milda.

The “Internationale Ausstellung für Künstlerbücher und Handpressendrucke” ( IAKH ) invited to show the “6th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2012” in Leipzig Book Fair. It was good reason to go with students from Graphic Department, Vilnius Academy of Arts and to learn how to exhibit artist’s books, to see the process of making exhibitions from “inside”. Also it was the possibility to see how does work Book Fair in Leipzig, to meet artists, professors and students from different art academies, to see the works of them, to see the best books of the world, to visit museums in Leipzig and in Berlin. We had very big program for our educative journey. And we can it realize only because we had “das Auto” from our Art academy.

Das Auto

When we arrived in Leipzig Book Fair we had to install the “6th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2012” in the gallery IAKH. We did it very good – we were working as a team. It was the possibility for the students to work as a team for the real project in the real space.

Few days we spent in Leipzig Book Fair analysing and discussing about books, book design, artist’s books and prints. It was really hard and interesting work.

We met many artists, one of them was an artist Barbara Beisinghoff – wonderful artist and big Lithuanian friend, she love students and is happy to explain about her beautiful artist’s books.

One day we have spent in Leipzig. We have visited “Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei” – in the beginning of 20 it was Cotton Mill – an industrial site in Leipzig. Now it is special art space where are many art galleries and art workshops.

We have visited Museum der Bildenden Kunste, wonderful museum with old masters and Max Klinger, and new art star – Neo Rauch. We have visited and Leipzig Print Exhibition – small art space with interesting prints.

In the evening we went on the opening in Leipzig Art Academy for the Walter Tiemann Prize.

Next day we went to Berlin.

We have visited museum Hamburger Bahnhof with wonderful collection of art, and good light installation of Ryoji Ikeda, a Japanese sound artist who lives and works in Paris.

In the Neue National Galerie was exhibited commercial artist Gerhard Richter… not very good exhibition.

Bad mood after bad exhibition

For the evening we decided to stay in beautiful Berlin. We have bought not alcoholic wine (it was our big mistake). We sat by the river and were looking on the lights of Berlin. It was quit night.
