With my old Friend – Odilon Redon
Meeting with Friends During the Artist‘s Book Exhibition in Leipzig

Many times I have been in Leipzig Book Fair with the “International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius” or “Lithuanian Artist’s Book Exhibitions”. And it has become a tradition to go there with the students from Graphic Department, from Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Sometimes I drive my old car, sometimes we rent the bigger “bus”, but it is always big adventure to go with the students to Germany, to listen different music of different students, to eat on the road in Poland strange Polish food, to stay in pink hostel in Poland near frontier… and again to drive the car which has some problems with the computer, to stop on the highway in Germany and to restart the computer and all car again, and to move till the police will come. For coming with the car in some towns in Germany the car has to had the “grüne Plakette”, and it is normal, our minibus didn’t had it. So, on the road to Leipzig we had to drive to Berlin in the “DEKRA Automobil GmbH” to get it. Lady in office was very kind and we got the “grüne Plakette” very quick.

This year we had the “mission” to drove the “8th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2018” to Leipzig Book Fair. As for many people it would be the main purpose of the travel, for us, or better to say for me, it was only the reason to go again to Germany, to meet my old Friends in Leipzig and in Berlin, and to “introduce” the students to my Friends. And to dream, that one day my Friends will become my students friends…
So, one day, when on the road was ice and snow, and big wind trembled the car, we drove to Berlin to the museum “Surreal Worlds” to meet my good Friends: Odilon Redon, Yves Tanguy, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Paul Klee, and old man – Henri Matisse. It was so nice to meet them again after all year. And it is look, like my students were happy to meet them personally, not from the books or bad slides…
